Had two goes at the sleeper
train today, in the early morning when it was due, I went to
Millswood, waiting, headlight coming from the wrong direction (down the hill) - captured
CLPF7, G511, G535 & 2819 passing Millswood in awkward lighting -
(Pic 1).
Returned later tried my luck along the line from Millswood
(derail sign
(Pic 2) uphill to Clapham, this is where I took a downward looking picture from the
Springbank Road bridge adjacent Clapham closed TA -
railway station (Pic 3) of the workers alongside the disused platform, trying to excavate the remains of a
(drain) under the track. You can see they have done a good job on the old BG (TA)
side... looking to the other side SG. Check out the condition of the timber sleepers, and they still probably are wondering how they are going to fix the drain under the tracks on that side (if at
all). Spoke to a worker there on site asking if he'd seen the sleeper
train...... Yep, it should be at Blackwood waiting
there. |
|

Pic 5
|
The
sleeper train was waiting there unloading a 'van' to the rear of CLP16 and 703
(Pic 4), no access at the site all closed off. Would have liked to have got on the footbridge on the
station...
Went about 1 km uphill near Glenalta and came across a track crossing (maze), wandered in this area and waited for the train to show itself,
(Pic 5) arriving there eventually at 1608 ish. |

Pic 7
|
|
Quick drive up to
Belair, waited for the locos to cut off the empty rake,
(Pic 6)
and run around to rejoin the train... (Pic 7)
|
|

The train pulled out from there at about 1655ish.

Just downhill from Springbank Road (bridge) at the pedestrian maze, I was set up umbrella in hand trying to keep the camera dry in case of rain (shower), holding the specs in the other hand somehow...... I turn around and
there is another railfan setting up a video camera behind me...... turns out
I knew him.....once the train had passed my position I turned around and captured him doing his thing with the video and the still. |

At
last a successful days outing in the hunt for the Rail
Train today 6th July 2009.
One rail worker at Lynton said the train is near the 15K post. Even if I did go to Coromandel station earlier and found the tamper and (no train).
When I arrived near the Eden Hills tunnels
another 30 minutes later another worker said "It went to Belair 10 minutes
ago. so I intended going to Belair via Blackwood
RWS. Passing through Blackwood another rail worker at the rail crossing on Main Rd, said "The trains at Coromandel
RWS. - That's where I found it eventually. The train was located at last at Coromandel station when I had all but given up looking for
it.. up and down the line in that area. In the meantime came across other rail related subjects....

On
returning to my car, could hear loud bird calling
sounds and came across a crow attacking the windscreen
wiper rubber with a vengeance, the bird was in no
hurry to leave either.

| Today
nice sunny and blue sky. Wandered out this morning to above Eden Hills Tunnels and took a few more pics of the
fellas in action doing a bit of thermit welding....arrived about five minutes late for the big
fizz effect though. The gang (workers) were a friendly mob though. One of them deciding to do

Mitcham Railcar Station (these days)
This old shelter / ticket office has seen plenty of comings and goings over the years. I am surprised it still stands after all these years. I assume the termites have not discovered this little treat.
Am surprised it wasn't razed back in the eighties and its place taken by some monstrosity... Although these days the shelters on TA platforms are looking real good and on the whole vandal
proof... |

completion is the Trans Adelaide (Broad Gauge)

to problems the preceeding day the
sleeper train had to be divided at

Railcar

|
| Waiting game here, waiting for the sounds of the sleeper train coming down hill through the
tunnel, waiting... waiting.... starts to rain, up umbrella.....
In the distant tunnel (portal) I can hear dynamic braking locos on the way TO ME.......
Imagine my surprise when the first thing I see is the yellow nose of a TA railcar set coming out of the tunnel, almost immediately followed by the sleeper train hauled by CLP17 / CLP / CLP14
and GM46 .... fortunately the TA railcars get ahead and out the way of the real
train shot....... |
