TRAIN NOTICE
for 900 and 909 last run to Coonalpyn. 29th July 1984.
|
|
Last run, including train order / timetable workings on 900 and 909's run to Coonalpyn on 29th July 1984.
I did not follow it right through to Coonalpyn, picked it up at Cooke Plains on the way out, unfortunately you could say we were on the wrong side of the
tracks as I realised too late that there was a bloody big pipeline running parallel to the line which made the photography very difficult....plus the
timetabled speed showed allowed 110 kph, I am sure it was closer to 120
kph, my Toyota Crown was having a good run itself on the smooth (metal)
dirt road trying to catch up to the train. A memorable day was had by myself, I have no idea what my missus thought, she was the one trying to take the pictures..
that's why they are not quite up to standard !!!!!!

The return journey with 900 leading, I waited just outside Tailem Bend for the train to come.... well I
under estimated its speed from a photography point of view, I made one mistake, I took the one pic
as it was just coming through /under the main road overpass structure, by the time I
wound on, had a quick glance to the side, the loco was right on me. I had the BETA video camera set up right alongside the track to do the filming,
then ran to it and followed the train after it had passed. I tried doing this a few times over the years - these days just try and do one job at a
time.
